Okay, my excuse this time for taking months to update is, of course, that I was busy with the production of Basement Folly, and then I had total hip-replacement surgery (the second one, and successful, just like the first), and then I ‘ve been working on a new play, a mystery with a message. Stay tuned for more news about that. But back to Basement Folly, it got great reviews, including this comment: “This fight over a basement, by playwright David Datz, is actually a fight about family, home and love, with a touch of the greater forces of society and the economy.” And consider this one: “Special congratulations and kudos to author Datz, whose keen observations about families make for a hilarious evening of back-biting fun.”

Basement Folly‘s run at Theatre 40 in Beverly Hills has ended, alas. It was an intense and wonderful experience for me. Carol Becker, my director, and my wonderful cast were all superb. And now I’m on to another project–a murder mystery play. Stay tuned.

It’s been a while since my last entry! That’s because I’ve been totally immersed in the rehearsal and opening of Basement Folly. It’s now going splendidly in its second week. Audiences love it. One reviewer calls it “a fight about family, home and love, with a touch of the greater forces of society and the economy.” Another says, “For a fun-filled evening, this is a must-see show.” If you’re in the LA area, go to theatre40.org for ticket info.

Basement Folly will open at Theatre 40 in Beverly Hills on October 3, and will run through October 26, Sundays through Wednesdays (except October 2). Carol Becker directs a cast of Kat Kemmet, Matt Landig, Tammy Mora, Michael Robb, and Caroline Westheimer. Rehearsals have begun, publicity has started, and everyone is excited.
